Dedicated to the memory of Terry

This site is a tribute to Terence (Terry) Butcher who was born on the 26th of January 1946 in Mile End, London. He enjoyed a long and beautiful 37 year marriage to Christine Butcher and raised three children, Rob, Helen, Stuart, and a granddaughter, Sammi. Terry was an excellent father, one of those who knew the answer to everything and knew how to do just about anything.

His strong passion for music helped bond him with Christine early in their life together. His musical interests spanned many genres including blues, reggae, disco, and metal. Some of his favorite artists included Buddy Holly, Lonnie Donegan, Tina Turner, and The Beatles just to name a few.

He had a wonderful sense of humor that can be described as dark and witty, but people warmed to this. He was also very selfless until the end; he always made sure everyone was taken care of before himself.

Terry was a hardworking man, a retired IT project manager. Terry had many interests and hobbies including watching sports (go West Ham!), a postage stamp collection and the creation and maintenance of the most beautiful garden. He also had a knack for up-cycling anything from plant pots and fences to furniture.

He was and will remain much loved and remembered.

The family would be honored if you choose to add any pictures, leave a tribute, or make a donation to the hospice organization that helped him during his final days by using the links below.

Thoughts

Thinking of you, Chris and Stuart, during this difficult time. The loss of Terry is a huge challenge for you to deal with, but take comfort in knowing he’s not suffering or in pain anymore. Through our ups and downs, I like to think that Terry and I ultimately had an understanding in that we both were protective of Stuart and wanted the best for him. I always enjoyed when we would bond over new recipes Terry was trying out, as well as debating what constitutes salad hehe. I particularly remember a peas and ricotta dish he made for us one weekend, I’m pretty sure I still have the print out he gave me with it. Similarly, I will forever remember Terry reviving my basil plant, which I had no clue required watering. In your grief, try to focus as much as possible on the countless fun memories and past moments of joy. Kasia xxx

Although we have not known each other very long or deeply, I am truly honored that Stuart has spent quality time talking to me about his emotions and the processing of this incredible loss. We both know that finding a way to live happily after this will be a long journey but please keep in mind that this is what your father wants for you and you have many people who respect you and care about you, such as me, to help you when you want or need us.
